DECEMBER 2008

Mutual Benefit Association of Oinoussians in America - since 1951

We are the "Mutual Benefit Association of Oinoussians in America" a.k.a. the "Oinoussian Society of America." Our fathers founded the club in 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. Although we still have first generation members, they have stepped back and let the next generation maintain the club but we always ask them for their opinions and guidance. We are not as active as we once were, but we still have our annual picnic every July and on the nearest Sunday to 6 December (Day of Ayios Nikolaos) we have a "mnimosino" for the deceased members and their families of the Oinoussian Society at St. Paul Greek Orthodax Church in North Royalton, Ohio.  Following that, we have a holiday luncheon at a local restaurant. We make an annual donation to several charities or to an Oinoussian individual or family in need when a member brings it to our attention. This is usually US$1,000, but we have given up to US$1,500. Our members are from Greater Cleveland, Canton and Youngstown in Ohio, Buffalo, NY, Gary, IN, Pittsburgh, PA, Clearwater Beach, FL, New Orleans, LA and Tuscon, AZ.

Our officers are:

  • Bill K. Pontikos, President
  • Irene Pontikos, Vice President
  • Koula (Pontikos) Dobolek, Treasurer
  • Patti (Ourania) Steffan, Secretary, and
  • Kathy Nikolaou, Secretary
